Use of Calculators on the SBAC.
Official Calculator use during the SBAC information can be found on this link.
Official Calculator use for students with IEPs may be found on this link (specifically page 19).
To summarize:
(Updated 9/30/2015)
- External Calculators are not permitted on the SBAC.
- SBAC separates their questions into two types of questions:
- Calculator Available
- Calculator Not Available
- Calculators may only be used on the "Calculator Available" portion of the exam. SBAC provides an embedded calculator
for this purpose.
- IEP calculators may only be used on the "Calculator Available" portion of the exam. SBAC does not allow use of
calculators for non calculator problems even if the IEP states the student may use a calculator. IEP Calculators are limited
to those specialized calculators required for the student to use. For example. A Blind student may request the use of a
braille or talking calculator.
- Calculators are not meant to be used for "Calculator Not Available" questions.
- When a specialized calculator is used it must be an approximate equivalent to calculators used on the SBAC.
- This information has been updated to correct an incorrect statement made on 9/29/2015.
